PROJECT DESCRIPTION
WORKSHOP-STUDIO
DIONUSOS,ATTIKH
The study concerns the creation of a single-story residence with a workshop–studio, the landscaping of the surrounding area, and its connection to an existing house on the neighboring plot. The main goal was the harmonious integration of the new building into the natural landscape and its subtle relationship with the pre-existing residence, without disturbing the environmental balance. The position of the building was determined by taking into account the orientation — ensuring protection from northern winds, the view, and the significant slope of the terrain. The result is an almost semi-underground structure, with a glass south façade that opens to the light, while the remaining surfaces are embedded into the earth, clad in stone, as if forming a natural extension of it.Inside, the exposed concrete of the walls and ceiling interacts with the stone floors made of large slabs and the iroko wood furniture, creating a sense of restrained yet warm materiality. A sliding curtain serves as a movable boundary, revealing or concealing the kitchen area depending on the needs. The placement of the building near the center of the plot divides it into two sections: the southeastern and the northwestern. Both sides are shaped with slopes and stone retaining walls that follow the natural inclinations of the ground. In the northwestern section lies a large, level courtyard, surfaced with layers of marble, functioning as an extension of the main residence’s yard.Access from the road is achieved through a pathway that alternates materials and textures: natural steps made of wood and earth, stone tiers, and ramps with “rammed earth” flooring, enhancing the sensory connection with the landscape.Three new pergolas define the outdoor areas — one at ground level and two on the roof, in the upper courtyard and BBQ areas — offering shade and continuity between interior and exterior spaces. The planting is completed with aromatic herbs and trees native to the Greek land, composing a natural, authentic, and timeless environment.
