PROJECT DESCRIPTION
TYROKOMEIO KWSTARELOS
NEA ERYTHRAIA,ATTIKH
The retail store of the Kostarelos Dairy in Nea Erythraia was designed with the goal of capturing the fusion of tradition and contemporary design. The composition seeks to interpret tradition through modern means, creating a space that combines the authenticity of Greek dairy heritage with the clarity and simplicity of modern aesthetics.
The exterior is defined by clean geometries and cladding in soft green tones—a color chosen for its association with nature and the purity of raw materials. Large glass panels act as a filter between public and private space, allowing visual continuity and highlighting the products. Lighting and signage details contribute to reinforcing the store’s identity, referencing its history that dates back to 1937.
The interior is organized into distinct retail zones, designed around functionality and the visitor’s experience. Materiality serves as a key compositional tool: stone, wood, metal, and glass coexist in balance, creating a calm environment that emphasizes the natural and handcrafted quality of the products.
At the center of the space, the service island—reminiscent of old refrigerators—is painted white, symbolizing milk, the dairy’s core product. The counter façade is clad with a wooden construction made from barrels, evoking memories of the workshop and traditional storage methods. The volumes of the upright refrigerators are seamlessly integrated into the whole, with finishes matching the color of the exterior façade.
All elements are freely arranged within the space, leaving the ceiling exposed in a dark industrial tone, serving as a backdrop that highlights the products. A reference to one of the main products, feta cheese, is found in the wooden barrel-shaped light fixtures hanging from the ceiling at the store’s entrance. The wood-textured flooring completes the material consistency of the space.
Lighting creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere, focusing on the retail zones and enhancing the visitor’s overall experience.
