PROJECT DESCRIPTION
THREE COUNTRY HOUSES IN KEFALONIA
KEFALONIA
The common yard- the view
The building program envisaged three small cottages for families of three brothers with their highly necessary premises.
A key element of the composition was a common courtyard for joint life created in the middle level.
The creation of the yard “embrace” was held with the bend of the two houses in relation to the road. The courtyard is organized under the large pergola and extensions in open and sheltered parts of the balconies of the houses.
The three sides of the house are closed with small openings creating natural air conditioning and the fourth has large windows towards the view.
The slope
The composition follows the natural slope of the terrain. As a result, the entrance is on the first floor and part of the ground floor is rammed
Orientation
West coincide with the view. Pergolas in the middle and lower level protect the houses from the summer sun.
Ionian Colours- Tin plate as memory
Ochra –burned Sienna, marine blue colours of the Venetian tradition in Kefalonia
Tin plate on the roofs and shelters, galvanized water pipes on the pergolas.
Interior
The volumes are low leaving the rectangular roof intact.
The planting was done with local trees and shrubs in continuation of the mountain.
Construction materials: visible concrete, irregular grated plaster with artifisiel mosaic, local stone masonry, natural wood, galvanized metals, grated cement, irregular stone plates.
