PROJECT DESCRIPTION
STORE e-food local,
L.PENTELIS,CHALANDRI
This is the second store developed following a closed invitation-only competition for the creation of e-food local retail stores.
The design focused on a clear differentiation of the existing facade and interior, through clean geometries, minimal materials, and bold color accents. The intent was to create a space with a strong identity, contemporary aesthetic, and immediate recognizability.
The store is located on a corner plot, with facades facing both Pentelis Avenue and Aeschylou Street. Large glass panels enhance the extroverted character of the space, making the interior visible from the street and encouraging engagement from passersby.
A key element of the composition is the use of red, which, in combination with the neutral grey of the envelope, creates a striking and recognizable visual identity. Red “signage boxes” with clear typography (e.g., coffee, snacks, convenience items) function as ergonomic and branding elements, offering spatial orientation to visitors.
The coffee counter is strategically positioned in direct contact with the public space, allowing for service without entering the store and reinforcing the “on-the-go” concept. The elevated deck at the front acts as a hybrid boundary between public and private space – a small waiting and pause area that enhances the social dimension of the commercial function.
Accessibility is ensured with the inclusion of a ramp, while parking bollards organize short-term vehicle stop points. The illuminated sign and linear, illustrated lighting elements make the store visible from a distance, enhancing its recognizability. The perimeter red lighting emphasizes the geometry of the building shell and defines the store’s nighttime profile.
Inside, the design logic continues consistently with the use of red on fridges, gondolas, signage, and the coffee frame. The ceiling and walls maintain neutral grey tones, highlighting the character of the commercial zones. Linear lighting fixtures define the various functions (coffee, cellar, food prep) and contribute to the clarity of movement and spatial functionality.
This is an architectural approach that integrates contemporary branding principles, optimized functionality, and a strong urban character.
