PROJECT DESCRIPTION

APARTMENT IN PARIS

This project is about an apartment renovation in Paris. The concept was the design of a main apartment and a small independent guest house in a total of 171,50 sq. The apartment is located in a historical Paris building and it maintains the characteristics of the old luxurious Parisian medieval apartments. Existing elements included elaborated plaster decorations on walls and ceilings, big fireplaces in every room, ornamented mirrors and tall doors with dashboards. The aim of the study was to maintain, restore and highlight those special characteristics in a fusion with a simpler and contemporary architectural vision, in order to create a modern apartment that will meet the needs of the family.
The flat was used as an office from the previous owners, therefore a total redesign of the plan was required in order to create the necessary spaces for the residence to function correctly. Therefore, new kitchen space, bedrooms and bathrooms were designed.
The floor, the bathroom’s walls and ceilings were covered with lavaplaster. The white color on the walls increases the luminosity and highlights the plasticity of the decorations on the walls and ceilings. The golden color on the frames of the big mirrors, was restored and accentuates their historicity. The door and windows frames were maintained, repaired and painted white after special process.
The ceiling surfaces along with their decorative elements were restored.  New lights were placed with respect to the existing ceiling. New ceilings and downlights were introduced in the bathroom areas.
