PROJECT DESCRIPTION

TOWN HALL OF LEFKADA

At the borderline of the old city and in a site near the sea, following a very tight building program, the proposal includes:

  • A route – continuation of the city’s roadway – beside the west limit of the parking lot that leads to a platform over the sea – ending towards the water.
  • Setting of the open space for events “Art and Speech”, in front of the site in the sidewall of Sikelianos street.
  • Creation of a dense building synthesis, that includes the indoor hall, the library, auxiliary rooms and the path to an upper level with independent accesses that links the buildings. The cube of town hall is installed at an angle relating to the position of the other buildings in order to create an inner courtyard – patio protected from the wind and accessible by both sides on the ground floor and allowing access to the sea.
  • The composition is completed by closing a large square on the ground level with a platform-dock for vessels, that on its lower level forms a pool, and with a small open theatre on one top of the square.
  • In the east of the building synthesis, the rest of the area is planted with trees in dense layout. In the west, a parking lot is proposed.
